As all of you know, I'm very eclectic when it comes to music but there is one genre of music that keeps me grounded and that's gospel music. When life gets rough or when I need to feel closer to God, I sing, listen to, and meditate on gospel music. There is quite a variety of gospel music out there, from traditional to rap and it depends on what kind of mood I'm in that determines the kind I choose to sing or listen to.
What's your favorite Style/Genre of music and why?
I enjoy gospel as it relates to "roots" or traditional music. I am drawn to the sincerity of music that originates from the home or community. I can relate to music that is drawn from some kind of need and has a purpose. You see that in a lot of gospel, that it is addressing a teaching, giving comfort, or giving expression to sorrow.
ReplyDeleteCarl, I have been trying to narrow down my favorite music and I just can't! I almost had an anxiety attack trying to!
ReplyDeleteAll joking aside, I realized that I tend to make my own genres. On my iPod, for example, I make my own folders for genres such as "Makes Me Move", "Trip to California", "Favorite Movies" and so on. I have found that rather than sticking to one genre of music, I choose songs from any genre that allows me to re-experience the sites, sounds and feelings that go with the specific occasion.
I enjoy most Genre's of music. Overall, I think my favorite is Southern Rock. It makes me feel happier when I am sad. I like music that keeps me bopping, not sleeping.
ReplyDeleteI love to listen to "The Oldies from the 70s and 80s" especially Elvis tunes. When I need inspiration, nothing works for me like Praise and Worship music. I like the beat and love the message. And, Carl, I still have your tape to the Hokey Pokey...thanks for the dance & song you allowed all my kindergarten classes to enjoy with that music.
ReplyDeleteI would have to agree with everyone else. I just love a variety of music. My choice all just depends on my mood and who I'm with. I can listen to just about anything and be happy.
ReplyDeleteOK, I see why I work in SPED, my post is not here. So I will try again. I also have a very eclectic taste in music. I know why, when we were small, on Sunday my Dad would go to 8:00am Mass and Mom and we kids would go to 10:00am. When we got home, Dad would have the stereo blasting with whatever music was tickeling his fancy that day, eggs, sausages, toast and juice on the table. We would eat and clean up then dance and be happy the rest of the day!
ReplyDeleteMusic makes me happy.

I have a passion for music and enjoy listening to it. My husband and I have music on more often in our home than the television. I enjoy listening to a variety of music such as: pop, country, rock and roll, and contemporary Christian music. My husband and I tend to listen to more contemporary Christian music though. I truly enjoy a wide variety of music and every time I hear a song, it takes me back to a moment in time as a child or young adult.

Thanks for your comments. I'm glad that we are all music lovers! People who do not like some kind of music are very sad and lonely people and to tell you the truth, they scare me. I think that people who do not like some form of music do not have souls.
ReplyDeleteDude, like, 80's Heavy Metal, Hair Bands, and Rock Ballads. Of course, 70's Rock and Disco are great because they remind me of being a kid, roller skating at Skate City or sitting in my friend's room listening to KISS playing my bass (air guitar) . How cool is that? Satellite Radio is the best thing ever because you can access each of these genre's of music and go back in time. For me at least, those were fabulous times and listening to these songs reminds me of great decades that I knew.
